- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 cup additional powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 3/4 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually mix in the flour and salt until just combined.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, chopped cherries, and nuts if using.
- Form the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden on the bottom.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes, then roll in the additional powdered sugar while still warm.
- Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
Notes
- For a more intense cherry flavor, try adding cherry extract.
- These cookies can be made ahead of time and stored for up to a week.
